Background of the study:
Technological innovation is increasingly seen as a critical driver of competitiveness in the service sector, particularly in dynamic urban centers like Abuja. Between 2010 and 2020, the adoption of advanced technologies in areas such as telecommunications, information technology, and digital services has transformed service delivery in Nigeria. These innovations have enabled companies to optimize operations, reduce costs, and offer enhanced customer experiences (Oluwaseun, 2023). In Abuja, technological innovation has not only improved efficiency but also spurred the creation of new business models that contribute to a more competitive market environment. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited access to funding, and regulatory barriers continue to hinder the full potential of technology-driven growth (Chukwu, 2024). This study examines how technological innovation has influenced competitiveness in the service sector by analyzing case studies, performance indicators, and policy impacts. It aims to provide a comprehensive view of the relationship between technological progress and market competitiveness, thereby offering practical recommendations for fostering further innovation in the service industry.
Statement of the problem:
Despite considerable advancements in technology, the service sector in Abuja faces challenges in fully leveraging innovation for enhanced competitiveness. Infrastructure deficits, funding constraints, and regulatory hurdles often limit the potential gains from technological innovation (Oluwaseun, 2023; Chukwu, 2024). These obstacles have resulted in a suboptimal competitive environment, reducing the sector’s ability to meet global standards. This study seeks to identify the key factors that restrict technological innovation and assess their impact on competitiveness in Abuja’s service sector.
